Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before ordering ready mixed concrete or floor screed for your project in Rickmansworth:
How does volumetric concrete mixing work?
Unlike traditional drum mixers carrying pre-mixed wet concrete from a central depot, our volumetric trucks transport unmixed cement, sand, stone, and water in separate dry hoppers. On arrival at your Rickmansworth site, the materials are mixed continuously in an on-board auger. This ensures 100% fresh concrete, lets us adjust the slump on site, and allows you to stop mixing the second your pour is filled — you only pay for what you lay.
What is the minimum order quantity?
Our minimum delivery quantity is just 1 cubic metre (1m³). Because we batch on site, you never have to worry about ordering surplus or paying return disposal fees.
How much notice do I need to give to book delivery?
We recommend booking 24 to 48 hours in advance to guarantee your preferred 2-hour morning or afternoon window. However, depending on our daily schedule across Three Rivers, we can often accommodate same-day or next-day deliveries. Call 020 3336 5305 for real-time truck availability.
How long do I have to offload the concrete truck?
We provide 10 minutes of free offloading time per cubic metre ordered. This gives your ground team plenty of time for direct chute discharge or wheelbarrow distribution.
Can I pour concrete in rainy or freezing weather?
Light rain is generally not a problem, but heavy rainfall should be covered with tarpaulins to protect the surface paste. In colder temperatures, we can add non-chloride setting accelerators to promote early hydration and protect against frost damage.
What is the difference between a ground line pump and a boom pump?
A ground line pump runs flexible hoses along the ground, through side passages, or through doorways to reach over 150m into rear gardens. A boom pump uses a hydraulic overhead arm to lift concrete pipes over roofs, walls, and obstacles for elevated pours.
How long does concrete take to set and cure?
Initial set occurs within 1 to 2 hours of placement. Concrete is safe for light foot traffic after 24 to 48 hours. Full structural design strength (e.g. C20, C25, C30) is reached after 28 days of curing. Driveways should be kept clear of vehicles for at least 7 days.
